Dear Fellow FAEP Members:

house Spring is finally here! I am always amazed at how fast the time seems to go by. Eric has been very busy as our new executive director, and did a fantastic job with our first event of 2010, the Breeding Soundness Exam Short Course, held at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala in February. The speakers were excellent, and we received great feedback from our FAEP members who were able to attend. After the success of this event, the FAEP is committed to extending an annual complimentary CE opportunity to our members.

The FAEP is tremendously grateful for the support of our diamond trustees, trustees, and business partners. Without their support, we would not be able to provide the highest quality CE for veterinarians. We would like to especially thank our two new diamond trustees, Pfizer and Luitpold, who have stepped up to higher support levels for our organization. The diamond trustees will have speaker sponsorships at the Promoting Excellence in the Southeast Symposium, and each will sponsor a student scholarship to attend the November 4-6th meeting in Orlando, FL.

Membership renewal begins in March, with early renewal prices! Your membership extends from July to July each year. Due to the success of an early renewal price option last spring, we are extending the early renewal price of $195 from March-May again this spring. Routine membership renewals will begin June 1 for $245. In additional to our DVM membership, we have decided to offer some new FAEP membership options this year. We have a terrific Practice Membership option, which will be a tremendous value for all members of the practice at $1,000. All practice members will enjoy the benefits of the standard DVM membership. Because the FAEP recognizes that there are many options for CE, and you may not choose to attend CE in the upcoming year, we have added a NO CE member option for $75. All of our new membership options, with the details and prices, will be updated on our website by the end of March. Also note the addition of an FAEP list serve as a member benefit! We will have a link on our website to join the new FAEP list.

We are excited to be offering another terrific free CE short course this summer with renowned equine surgeon and author Dr. Ted Stashak, who will be speaking on equine wound management. The short course is presented by the FAEP and our partners in conjunction with SentrX Animal Care, on July 24, 2010 at the Ocala Hilton. In addition to a terrific morning of CE, breakfast will also be served. Please email EricFAEP@aol.com to register for the event.

We are utilizing our website, facebook, and email to update our members on important information throughout 2010. We would love for you, our members, to be more involved in our organization. If you are able to volunteer on committees or are interested in being on the board, please sign in under the FAEP Member Involvement Portion of the website http://www.faep.net/membership/participate.php. We also want to encourage our membership to submit articles for The Practitioner, our FAEP journal. Please email me if you have an article to be considered for submission at housea@vetmed.ufl.edu.

Finally, please mark your calendars for the 2010 Promoting Excellence in the Southeast Symposium in Orlando, Florida from November 4-6, 2010. Please note the later date, so that we would not conflict with the WEG in Lexington, KY. The symposium’s theme will be The Equine Athlete, with a focus on regenerative medicine. We have some excellent speakers lined up including Drs. Steve Reed, Doug Byars, David Frisbie, Mary Beth Whitcomb, Bob Harmon, Jim Robertson and Dirk Vanderwall. We are also adding a practical “How To” session to the meeting this year, and are encouraging abstract submissions for May 1, 2010. How To speakers will receive a complimentary registration to the meeting.

All the best,

Amanda M. House, DVM, DACVIM
2010 FAEP President
